Overview of the Video: The recording focuses on how to build and import assignments into courses within the ADAPT platform, including finding questions for those assignments.
- Course-Assignment-Question Hierarchy: ADAPT follows a traditional structure of courses containing assignments, which in turn contain questions [00:01:29]. A less traditional approach involves courses, assignments, and then "trees" (structured learning activities) [00:01:34].
- Importing Existing Assignments: You can import assignments from all public courses, curated LibreTexts development team courses, or your own previous courses [00:02:55]. When importing, you can choose to bring in the assignment properties and/or the questions [00:04:30].
- Unpublished Assignments (Red Hue): Imported assignments appear with a red hue, indicating they are unpublished and not yet visible to students [00:04:56].
- Publishing Assignments (Green Hue): You can manually publish an assignment by clicking the button, turning it green [00:05:44].
- Auto-Release Options: ADAPT offers an "Auto" option to automatically release certain aspects of an assignment, such as publishing it a certain number of days before it's available to students [00:05:54]. This needs to be activated in the course properties [00:06:16].
- Assignment Details: Clicking on the assignment title allows you to see the questions within it [00:06:53]. Assignments have properties like release status, availability dates, and due dates [00:07:18].
- Assignment Action Items: Similar to courses, assignments have action items such as editing properties, cloning (with or without questions), trashing, and grading (accessing the open grader) [00:08:34]. The grader is useful for open-ended questions and viewing algorithmic question variations [00:08:53].
- Releasing Scores, Solutions, and Statistics: Beyond releasing the assignment itself, you can control the release of student scores [00:10:08], solutions [00:12:31], and class statistics [00:13:03] through the control panel (or main view toggle) at the assignment level [00:09:57].
- Hiding Points and Student Names: You have options to hide the point values of questions from students [00:14:16] and to anonymize student names for graders to reduce bias [00:14:58].
- Embedding Assignments: Assignments can be embedded into LibreTexts books, with options to parse through all questions or a specific question [00:16:14].
- Question Details: Within an assignment, each question has an ID number, the technology it's built on (e.g., iMathAS, WeBWork, H5P, Native) [00:17:28], the number of points it's worth [00:20:02], and an indication if a solution is available [00:20:12].
- Question Action Items: You can edit (if you have rights), clone, view, and "like" (bookmark) questions [00:20:29], [00:32:26]. Cloning creates a new, editable copy without affecting the original [00:21:12].
- Accessibility Considerations (H5P): H5P can have accessibility issues for visually impaired students [00:23:57]. ADAPT allows for linking a primary, potentially inaccessible question with a secondary, accessible alternative, assigned at the course properties level [00:24:29].
- Security Concerns (H5P): H5P is client-side technology and is not secure for summative assessments as students can easily find solutions in the code [00:29:00]. It's recommended for formative practice only [00:30:21].
- Student View: You can toggle to the student view to see what they experience, including late submission warnings and their submission status [00:27:38].
- Advanced Question View: The advanced view provides access to question properties (including QR code and Studio link for H5P) [00:31:07], embedding properties, private descriptions, and attribution editing [00:31:40].
- Uploading Work: You can enable students to upload work (PDF or image) for a question, which is useful for providing partial credit [00:33:10].
- Creating a New Assignment: When creating a new assignment, you set properties like title, description (public and private), formative/summative designation, group, scoring type (by submit, performance, or completion; points per question or total assignment points with weighted questions), assessment type (real-time, delayed grading, learning tree, clicker questions), and the option for students to submit work [00:36:54].
- Additional Assignment Settings: Other settings include allowing students to contact the instructor for regrades [00:44:10], showing/penalizing hints [00:44:54], open-ended submission types [00:46:49], algorithmic question settings [00:47:46], late policies [00:49:27], inclusion in final grade calculation [00:50:01], instructions [00:50:16], random question sampling [00:50:28], notifications [00:51:36], assigning to specific students or sections with different dates [00:52:04], and auto-release options [00:53:02].
- Adding Existing Questions to an Assignment: The easiest way to add a question is by pasting its ID number.
